Shandon was Columbia's first planned suburb, laid out in the early 1900s, and it still reads that way. The streets are named for world capitals, the lots are tight and walkable, and the bungalows that went up a century ago are still the heart of the place. It comes inside on shoes and on pets, and it bonds into carpet fiber where ordinary cleaners can't lift it. The clay isn't loose dirt. It's pigment that sets into the pile.
Then the Midlands humidity does the rest. Summer here keeps moisture in the air for months, and that moisture works into carpet padding and stays. In an older home with less airflow, that's where the musty smell comes from. Steam cleaning soaks everything and leaves it wet most of the day, which only feeds the problem. Our carbonated method uses about a fifth of the water, lifts the embedded dirt to the surface, and leaves the carpet dry in roughly an hour.
